Catch 'Em While You Can

Fall happens so quickly here. Trees are green one week, full of color the next, and bare branches the week after. Here's two pics I took at Norman J. Levy Preserve in Merrick. One was taken mid-October and the other was taken 3 days ago.

Going Green

We went to the Norman J. Levy Preserve in Merrick the other week. I had forgotten all about these guys. They are used in the control of weeds and other unwanted pest plants.

Amish Country

We took a trip this weekend to Lancaster, PA. My kids can't believe that people can actually survive without TV and video games! LOL! The weather was kind of rainy, but we enjoyed ourselves anyway.

Camouflage

We found this little guy (he looks huge in the pic, but is only about the size of my thumb) in our yard a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea where he came from. Levittown is a suburb and we were shocked to see a toad in our yard. It's not something we see every day. We're thinking he may come from the sump which is down the block. That's where all the rabbits and oppussums come from (or at least that's where we THINK they're coming from.) :-D

Butterfly Shadows

I love butterflies and enjoy having them come to my garden. I was so happy that my butterfly bush finally got blooms on the side that is closest to my yard!

Please visit Hey Harriet's site here to see more shadows from around the world.

Red Skies at Night

Okay, so I've been stuck on song lyrics for my last few posts. :-P

I was washing dishes last week and turned around to grab some more. I happened to look out the window and this is what I saw. I don't know if it was from Bill's approach to LI or not, but I've never seen the sky like this before.

If Everybody Had An Ocean

We went to the beach at Robert Moses today. It was hazy, hot and humid and there was only one field open, so it was pretty crowded, but it was a "good" crowd. The water was a welcome relief, but the waves were pretty rough (although my 5 year old thought the "waves were awesome" LOL!). This was due to Bill making it's way up to our area in the few days. The lifeguards were out patrolling in kayaks and surfboards which was pretty cool. They're pretty amazing. I had a hard time keeping an eye on my 2 kids. I couldn't imagine keeping an eye out for a whole beachful of people. My thanks to all the brave men and women who do that job.
